Celera Motion (Westwind), maker of very high speed air-bearing spindles

TLDR: Through its Westwind brand, Celera Motion is a partner of choice for precision motion control components: encoders, motors, servo drives and air-bearing spindles, with a complete range of high-speed spindles reaching 285,000 rpm, which has become the standard of the printed circuit board drilling industry.

Celera Motion helps original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) solve complex engineering problems through its MicroE optical encoders, Zettlex inductive encoders, Applimotion direct drive motors and actuators, Ingenia servo drives and Westwind air-bearing spindles. Westwind air-bearing technology, non-contact and virtually friction-free, makes the difference in printed circuit board manufacturing, automotive coating, precision machining equipment and many other markets where performance requirements go beyond what conventional bearing technologies can offer. Designed and manufactured for many advanced sectors — printed circuit boards (PCB), semiconductor manufacturing, high-volume automotive and industrial coating, precision machining of glass, composites and metals — Westwind spindles are used by many leading equipment manufacturers worldwide.

A range of air-bearing spindles, up to 285,000 rpm

TLDR: Westwind spindles are based on non-contact air-bearing technology, with a complete range of high-speed spindles reaching 285,000 rpm, which has become the quality, reliability and accuracy standard of the printed circuit board drilling and routing industry.

The complete range of Westwind high-speed spindles, able to run up to 285,000 rpm, has become the industry standard for quality, reliability and accuracy in printed circuit board drilling and routing. For all Westwind high-speed air-bearing spindles, a motor drive must be installed between the spindle and the main power supply, frequency and voltage controls being required to run the shaft at the necessary speed from a 50 or 60 Hz input frequency. The collets manufactured by Westwind are designed specifically to operate at the high rotation speeds and dynamic runout accuracy customers require — using alternative components can not only shorten spindle life but also affect production quality and yield. Every spindle requires a continuous air supply filtered to better than 0.01 micron and free of oil and water, with cooling temperature held between 16 and 20 °C on many production configurations, often fitted with temperature sensors that stop the machine before any damage occurs.

Celera Motion spindles and motor spindles covered (non-exhaustive list)
