Unlike conventional lathes, Esco's Escomatic lathes rely on a unique principle: the material, fed as coil or bar, has no rotational movement; it is the tools, supported by a rotating turning head, that revolve at minimal distance around the material. This high-performance principle delivers unmatched productivity at low cost, with cycle times reaching up to 100 parts per minute on the most productive configurations. The range covers several machine generations (D2, D5, NM6, NM8 Flexi), with accuracy down to ±3 to 4 µm, meeting the requirements of varied industries: watchmaking, medical, connectors and automotive.
A range of rotating tool-holder heads and second-operation spindles
TLDR: Escomatic machines use a rotating head able to carry several tool sets (up to 2 x 2 CNC-driven tools) turning at up to 8,000 rpm, combined with independent cross slides and, on the most advanced configurations, a C-axis sub-spindle for second-operation work.
On the Escomatic NM8 Flexi, the material is straightened up to 8 mm in diameter, then fed into the guide bush at the centre of the rotating head, on which two sets of two CNC-driven tools work in parallel at up to 8,000 rpm. Facing this main spindle, two independent cross slides allow simultaneous machining of two parts. On the most complete units (DUAL device), one station groups up to six tool-holder spindles and, optionally, four additional turning tools, with a three-axis CNC slide carrying a C-axis sub-spindle that picks up finished parts at cut-off to complete their machining in a second station.
