Hardinge spindle and motor spindle repair
Brochexpress is an independent workshop specialising in the repair, maintenance and diagnostics of Hardinge spindles and motor spindles — a historic American manufacturer founded in 1890 and a global reference in high-precision machining under the SUPER-PRECISION® brand.
Hardinge, the American precision reference since 1890
TLDR: Hardinge (founded in 1890 in Elmira, New York State) is one of the world's largest machine tool manufacturers, renowned for its SUPER-PRECISION® brand combining best practices in hardware and software design to produce very high-precision turning centres.
Founded in 1890 in Elmira, New York State, Hardinge has been designing, manufacturing and distributing metal-cutting machine tools renowned for their reliability and precision for more than a century. The manufacturer today covers turning, milling, grinding and workholding, with a group that also includes the Swiss brand Kellenberger, a specialist in grinding and hard turning. The SUPER-PRECISION® brand sums up the manufacturer's philosophy: a combination of best practices in hardware and software design and manufacturing, integrated into a single machine tool, to produce high-precision turning centres requiring as little human intervention as possible.
A range of very high-precision spindles, Harcrete base and pressurized bearings
TLDR: Hardinge SUPER-PRECISION® lathes feature high-precision spindles mounted on a reinforced base made of Harcrete composite material, with two-plane dynamic balancing and roundness accuracy of up to 0.000015 inch (around 0.4 µm).
Hardinge turning centres in the T SP series are built on a cast-iron (Meehanite) base reinforced with Harcrete composite, offering better torsional rigidity and superior vibration damping compared with traditional cast iron. The spindles, engineered with a collet-ready design, benefit from high-precision bearings, two-plane dynamic balancing of the spindle assembly, and hand-scraped joints for high rigidity and accuracy. On the most precise models (GT27 SP), this design achieves part roundness in the order of 0.000015 inch and continuous machining accuracy of 0.0002 inch. On vertical machining centres (VMC), the spindle typically reaches 12,000 rpm with 16.5 kW of power, in BT 40 interface.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair spindles from the SUPER-PRECISION® range?
Yes, we work on these spindles taking into account their specific requirements in terms of dynamic balancing and roundness accuracy.
Do you work on the pressurized spindles of sliding-headstock lathes with guide bushing?
Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, designed for stability and rigidity in precision machining.
What is the average lead time for a complete overhaul?
Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the spindle and the availability of parts (bearings, seals, specific components).
Can a repair affect the precision guaranteed by Hardinge on its SUPER-PRECISION® spindles?
Our overhaul process aims to restore the manufacturer's original tolerances, with particular care given to balancing and bearing clearances, which are essential on this type of spindle.
Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Hardinge machines?
Yes, we draw up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to the criticality of this equipment, particularly relevant for precision workshops.
