TLDR: Hedelius offers three main machining centre families — the Forte series (3 axis), the ACURA series (5 axis with swivelling rotary table) and the Tiltenta series, whose continuously swivelling main spindle, integrated as a CNC B axis, allows 5 axis machining without repositioning the workpiece — complemented by automation solutions such as the Marathon pallet magazine.
The Hedelius range covers 3 axis machining centres (Forte series), 5 axis centres with swivelling rotary table (ACURA series) and centres with a swivelling spindle (Tiltenta series). The main distinguishing feature of the Tiltenta series is its continuously swivelling main spindle, integrated as standard as a CNC B axis and combined with a CNC rotary table (B/C kinematics): it allows complete 5 axis machining without repositioning the workpiece, with maximum flexibility for machining large, complex parts.
The series comes in several sizes, from the Tiltenta 7 — X travel of 2,000 to 2,600 mm, with an integrated rotary table for workpieces up to 800 kg and 1,050 mm in diameter — through to the Tiltenta 10-3600, described as a "Powerhouse" for heavy machining of very large parts. Automation solutions complete the offering, such as the Marathon SR415 pallet magazine (15 pallets), paired notably with the Tiltenta 7 NEO for fully automated production. A swivelling spindle works in varying orientations, which loads its bearings and sealing differently from a fixed vertical spindle — a point our diagnostics take into account.
Documented accuracy, and thermal management of the spindle
Hedelius checks the accuracy of its machines with a laser interferometer: positioning accuracies of the linear axes to ISO 230-2 are regularly below 6 µm, and circularity accuracy reaches IT6 quality, verified by a Renishaw circularity test. The rotary axes are fitted with direct angle measuring sensors at the centre of each axis. On the spindle side, Hedelius fits its machining centres with spindle chillers to carry away the heat produced, which already brings increased thermal stability as standard; optionally, temperature sensors on the spindle, the control stations and in part on the rotary axes allow thermal displacements to be compensated.
