MAG, a group formed by bringing together major historic machine tool brands

TLDR: MAG (MAG Industrial Automation Systems, now part of the FFG group) has been built up since 2005 by bringing together renowned brands from the American and German machine tool industry — Cincinnati, Boehringer, Cross Hüller, Ex-Cell-O, Fadal, Forest Liné, Giddings & Lewis, Hessapp, Honsberg, Hüller Hille, Lamb, Modul and Witzig & Frank — to form a global supplier of tailor-made production solutions.

Since 2005, MAG has brought together renowned brands from the American and German machine tool industry to form a leading global company: Cincinnati, Boehringer, Cross Hüller, Ex-Cell-O, Fadal, Forest Liné, Giddings & Lewis, Hessapp, Honsberg, Hüller Hille, Lamb, Modul and Witzig & Frank are among the historic brands gathered under this banner. The group covers a full range of equipment and technologies: turning, milling, gear cutting, grinding, honing, systems integration, composite material machining, cryogenic machining, maintenance, automation and software, tooling and fluids, as well as core components (spindles and milling heads). MAG serves key industrial markets: aerospace, automotive and heavy trucks, heavy equipment, oil and gas, rail, solar energy, wind turbine production and general machining.

A range of high-power spindles for production machining and aerospace

TLDR: MAG machines feature spindles reaching up to 10,000 rpm at 56 kW on universal machining centres, with complementary tilting spindles (6,000 rpm, 46 kW) and twin-spindle configurations for high-volume production.

On the group's recent machining centres, MAG has added a new 6,000 rpm, 46 kW tilting spindle alongside a versatile 10,000 rpm, 56 kW spindle, offering greater flexibility for 5-sided machining of complex parts. The U5-3000 universal machining centre combines a large platform capacity with a long-reach 3-metre Z axis and 5-axis/5-sided machining for efficient processing of large parts, notably in titanium for aerospace (XTi five-spindle, five-axis profilers). On high-volume production configurations, such as the SPECHT 450 DUO, a twin-spindle architecture combined with some of the fastest tool change times on the market maximises productivity.

MAG spindles covered (non-exhaustive list)

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair the 10,000 rpm / 56 kW universal spindles of U5-3000 machining centres?

Yes, we work on these spindles, as well as on the associated complementary tilting spindles.

Do you work on the twin spindles of SPECHT high-volume production centres?

Yes, we diagnose and repair each of the two spindles, taking care to preserve their synchronisation.

What is the average lead time for a complete overhaul?

Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the spindle and the availability of parts (bearings, seals, specific components).

Do you work on the spindles of the five-spindle/five-axis titanium profilers (XTi range)?

Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, designed for machining difficult materials.

Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of MAG machines?

Yes, we draw up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to your production pace, particularly relevant for aerospace and automotive workshops.
