Mägerle, more than 90 years of Swiss surface and profile grinding

TLDR: Mägerle AG Maschinenfabrik (founded in 1929 by Karl and Max Mägerle) moved into grinding technology in 1932, introducing in 1980 the fully encapsulated hydrostatic guideway that still characterises its technology today, before pioneering CNC surface grinders in the MFP series in 1985.

Founded in 1929 by the brothers Karl and Max Mägerle as a metal goods trading business, the company moved into grinding technology in 1932 by acquiring the grinding operations of Fritz Wunderli AG. In 1980, Mägerle took a decisive step by fitting its surface and profile grinders, for the first time, with a fully encapsulated hydrostatic guideway system, with a hydrostatically mounted grinding spindle and a dressing unit installed above the process, delivering exceptional performance.

A range of high-power spindles with continuous cooling for multi-process grinding

TLDR: Mägerle grinding centres, such as the MFP 100, use a spindle rated up to 50 kW with continuous cooling for chip evacuation, together with upper dressing systems that allow grinding wheels and form rolls to be changed simultaneously.

On the MFP 100 grinding centre, developed specifically for multi-face machining of heavy, complex parts in a single clamping, a 50 kW spindle rating and a generously designed working area make it ideally suited to machining turbine guide vanes, rotor blades and heat shields used in aviation and the energy industry. The upper tool and dressing roll change system allows a twin gripper to change grinding wheels and form rolls simultaneously.

Mägerle spindles covered (non-exhaustive list)

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair the high-power spindles (up to 50 kW) of the MFP 100 centre?

Yes, we work on these spindles, taking into account their twin-gripper tool change system.

Do you work on the continuously cooled spindles of the compact MFP 30 centre?

Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, dedicated to small aerospace and space parts.

What is the average lead time for a full overhaul?

Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the spindle and the availability of parts (bearings, seals, specific components).

Do you work on the encapsulated hydrostatic guideway spindles characteristic of Mägerle?

Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, which are essential to the accuracy and durability of the machine.

Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Mägerle machines?

Yes, we draw up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to your production pace, particularly relevant for the turbine industry and aerospace.
