Founded in 1930 by craftsman Keiichi Nakanishi to produce dental instruments in Tokyo, the company markets its products under the NSK brand, an acronym of "Nakanishi Shika Kikai" (Nakanishi dental equipment). Having become the world leader in rotary dental instrumentation with around 15% of the global market by the 2000s, just behind Germany's KaVo, the company developed a parallel industrial activity in precision cutting and polishing from the 1980s, finding little competition in the segment of small-diameter, very high speed spindles. Nakanishi designs every product in house (mechanics, electronics, firmware) and manufactures 80 to 85% of its components internally, including the special machine tools needed to produce them. In 2022, Nakanishi acquired the German high-frequency spindle manufacturer Alfred Jäger GmbH, now integrated under the name NAKANISHI Jaeger, strengthening its presence on the European precision industrial spindle market.

The HTS series, with ultra-high speed air turbine spindles, suits cutting tools under 0.5 mm in diameter, with negligible spindle expansion and extremely low heat generation thanks to the air turbine mechanism, allowing very high feed rates.
