Petewe spindle and motor spindle repair
Brochexpress is an independent workshop specializing in the repair, maintenance and diagnostics of Petewe spindles and motor spindles. Petewe is a historic German manufacturer of optical profile grinders (PFS series), founded by Alfred Kolb.
Petewe, the German pioneer of optical profile grinding
TLDR: Petewe (Werkzeugmaschinenbau Präzisions-Technik GmbH, Aschaffenburg then Wertheim) was founded by Alfred Kolb, designer of the first optical profile grinder, whose PFS-1 prototype dates from 1936.
Alfred Kolb designed the first optical profile grinder during his studies in Darmstadt. His PFS-1 prototype dates from 1936, and the machine was shown to the public at the Leipzig fair in 1938. The PFS-3 series went into production in 1939. The Aschaffenburg plant was dismantled in 1945, and production continued in Wertheim, where a subsidiary had been set up in 1943. The range then grew with the PFS-3d-r (circular form grinding) and the PFS-4U. A CNC version, the PFS 30 CNC, is still found as a copy grinder.
The PeTeWe know-how has since joined Amada Machine Tools, which brings together under one brand that of Wasino, PeTeWe, Doebeli and Profiltec. Note: Pee-Wee Kaltwalz- und Rohrbearbeitungsmaschinen GmbH is a different, unrelated company.
Spindles for profile grinding
TLDR: Petewe grinders perform flat profile grinding, profile grinding with clearance, and axial and radial circular form grinding. Their accuracy depends on the wheel spindle.
These machines grind templates, blanking and stamping dies, form tools and cams. The Petewe wheel spindle must stay stable over long hours. Spindle specifications are not published: we confirm them with the quote, based on the nameplate.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair the spindles of Petewe PFS profile grinders?
Yes, we repair these wheel spindles, even on older machines.
Are Pee-Wee and Petewe the same company?
No: Pee-Wee builds cold rolling and tube processing machines. We handle Petewe spindles on profile grinders.
Where can I find parts for a very old machine?
We identify the bearings and components from the Petewe spindle itself. If a part no longer exists, see our page on discontinued manufacturers.
What is the average turnaround for a complete overhaul?
Allow around 20 working days in our workshop, depending on the condition of the spindle and parts availability (bearings, seals, specific components).
Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Petewe machines?
Yes, we set up preventive maintenance programmes matched to your production rate and the criticality of your machines.
Are you an official Petewe partner?
