Traub spindle repair
Brochexpress is an independent workshop specialising in the repair, maintenance and diagnostics of Traub spindles and sub-spindles — a historic German brand of the INDEX group, a benchmark in sliding headstock and fixed headstock lathes for precision bar turning.
Traub, a historic German brand in precision bar turning
TLDR: Traub, now part of the German INDEX-Werke group, ranks among the leaders in the manufacture of automatic lathes and CNC turn-mill centres, with a recognised specialisation in sliding headstock lathes for machining parts up to 32 mm in diameter.
According to their parent company, Traub and INDEX rank among the leaders in the manufacture of automatic lathes and CNC turn-mill centres. The Traub brand has particularly distinguished itself in CNC sliding headstock lathes, designed for the precision and high-performance machining of parts up to 32 mm in diameter. The TNL range stands out for its high performance and its great ease of tooling and programming, with a modular structure allowing simple conversion between sliding headstock mode (Swiss-type principle) and fixed headstock mode for ultra-productive operation. The universal lathes of the TNA range complete the offering for larger-diameter parts, with spindle bar capacities of up to 82 mm.
A range of highly dynamic spindles and sub-spindles, with DualDrive technology
TLDR: Traub lathes integrate a main spindle and an identical sub-spindle facing it, enabling simultaneous internal machining on both spindles, with rotation speeds typically around 12,000 rpm and a new DualDrive drive system.
On the sliding headstock lathes of the TNL series, a separate cross slide carries a sub-spindle identical to the main spindle and oriented towards it, with a travel range enabling simultaneous internal machining on both spindles. On the most highly equipped versions (TNL32-7B), an additional B axis with 100° numerical swivel makes it possible to machine ultra-complex part geometries requiring milling, drilling and thread cutting at different angular positions. DualDrive technology, developed by Traub, constitutes the brand's new drive system. The main and counter spindles typically reach 12,000 rpm, with power ratings of around 2.5 kW on the compact configurations dedicated to small diameters.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair the main spindles and sub-spindles of Traub sliding headstock lathes?
Yes, we work on these spindles, taking into account their face-to-face configuration enabling simultaneous machining.
Do you work on spindles equipped with DualDrive technology?
Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, whether they are recent or older configurations.
What is the average lead time for a full overhaul?
Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the spindle and the availability of parts (bearings, seals, specific components).
Do you work on the spindles of TNA universal lathes (bar capacity up to 82 mm)?
Yes, we cover the entire range, from the small diameters of the TNL series to the larger configurations of the TNA series.
Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Traub lathes?
Yes, we draw up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to your production rates, particularly relevant for precision bar turning workshops running continuously.
