Custom mechanical test benches & CNC indexing tables: the spindle designed in-house, not bought as a standard component

From drafting the specification to training your operators, our engineering office supports you at every stage.

Brochexpress designs and manufactures custom mechanical test benches and CNC indexing tables, drawing directly on its own expertise in spindles and electrospindles. Unlike a general-purpose integrator that buys the rotating component from a third party, we design the bench's spindle or electrospindle in-house, which guarantees complete consistency between the rotating element being tested or driven and the instrumentation surrounding it.

What sets our approach apart

Most test bench designers are specialists in instrumentation and control: sensors, data acquisition, control software. They assemble these building blocks around a motor or a spindle bought from a catalogue.

At Brochexpress, it is the other way round: the spindle or electrospindle has been our core business for more than 30 years. When a test bench requires a rotating element with precise characteristics — speed, torque, rotational accuracy, load capacity — we design it ourselves rather than buying it as a generic component.

The result: a bench sized exactly for your application, with none of the compromises imposed by the limits of a standard component.

What we design

  • Performance test benches: measurement and verification of the mechanical and electrical characteristics of a spindle or rotating assembly — rotation speed, power, torque, load resistance
  • Bearing inspection and balancing benches: validation of bearings fitted on critical axes of rotation, including in demanding environments
  • Custom CNC indexing tables: design and manufacture tailored to your machine integration constraints
  • Benches dedicated to a specific sector or application: sized according to your specification, your internal standards or the requirements of your own customers

Application sectors

Aerospace, automotive (powertrain development), machine tools, industrial R&D — wherever a rotating element must be tested, validated or driven with precision.

A concrete reference: a bench designed by Brochexpress is used to inspect the bearings fitted on the main rotation axis of helicopter rotors — an environment where the slightest bearing failure has critical consequences. Rotation speed 2,000 rpm, torque 12 Nm in S1 and 17 Nm in S6, axial load ± 1,000 N, bearings up to 300 mm in diameter, balancing to class G 0.4: the level of demand on this project illustrates our approach.

Other projects — gearbox test benches, e-motor benches for automotive supplier laboratories — are presented on our innovation page.

Our method

1

Defining the requirement

You send us your constraints; if you do not have a formal specification, our engineering office helps you draft it.

2

Preliminary technical study

3D presentations and calculation notes to outline the possible solutions and converge between the initial idea and the technical and financial constraints.

3

Detailed design

Definition of the project's main development paths and validation of the technical choices.

4

Manufacturing

Production in our workshop, including the spindle or electrospindle designed specifically for the bench.

5

Installation and commissioning

Assembly and commissioning of the bench directly on your site.

6

Operator training

Your teams are trained to use the bench before it enters service.

7

Maintenance

A follow-up contract is available, as for our electrospindles in service.

Lead times and warranty

Between the definition of the specification and completion, allow 1 to 3 months depending on project complexity. Every test bench or CNC indexing table is covered by a 12-month warranty.

Frequently asked questions

How does a test bench with an in-house designed spindle differ from a standard bench?

A standard bench uses an off-the-shelf motor or spindle, sized for general-purpose use. By designing the spindle ourselves, we match it exactly to the parameters to be tested — speed, torque, precision — with none of the compromises imposed by the characteristics of a generic component.

What types of tests can be carried out on your benches?

Rotation speed, power, torque, load resistance, dynamic balancing and bearing inspection, according to the parameters defined in your specification.

Do you also supply the CNC indexing table on its own, without a complete test bench?

Yes, the design and manufacture of custom CNC indexing tables is a standalone service.

I have no formal specification, can you help me?

Yes, our engineering office helps you formalise your requirements upstream, before the design phase even begins.

Do you provide training and maintenance after the bench is delivered?

Yes, installation is followed by operator training, and a maintenance contract can be set up.

How long should I allow between the specification and delivery of the bench?

Between 1 and 3 months depending on project complexity, from the specification to completion. Every piece of equipment is covered by a 12-month warranty.

Can you integrate sensors directly into the spindle for the instrumentation of the bench?

Yes, integrating torque, vibration or temperature sensors into the architecture of the spindle itself is a frequent request on this type of project, to be defined according to your test protocol.

Does a test bench spindle have to withstand different fatigue from a production spindle?

Yes, often. The repetitive cycles of a test protocol load the spindle differently from continuous production use, which changes the sizing of the bearings and mechanical components.

Can you design a spindle for speeds or torques outside usual machining standards?

Yes, and that is precisely the point of starting from the test protocol rather than adapting a machine tool component to a use it was not designed for.
