Why your spindles wear differently in aerospace

TLDR: Titanium and nickel-based superalloys impose specific cutting conditions that load the spindle differently from steel or aluminium machining: accelerated bearing wear, greater sensitivity to heat, faster loss of accuracy.

Titanium and nickel-based superalloys impose specific cutting conditions — reduced speeds, high coolant pressures, sustained cutting forces — that load the spindle differently from conventional steel or aluminium machining. That loading translates into accelerated bearing wear, greater sensitivity to heat build-up and a faster loss of accuracy on the tight tolerances demanded by structural and engine parts.

Our position on quality and traceability

TLDR: Brochexpress is not itself AS9100/EN9100 certified, but works regularly for workshops that are, fitting into their traceability requirements.

Brochexpress is not itself AS9100/EN9100 certified. We do, however, work regularly for certified machining workshops, fitting into their traceability requirements: dimensional inspection report before and after the intervention, documented service history, committed lead times to limit the impact on your own production commitments. Our role is to let you keep control of your quality chain, with no break in traceability on the equipment.

What we do in practice

  • Grinding of spindles and motor spindles on machines dedicated to aerospace part machining (5-axis centres, grinders, precision lathes)
  • Diagnostics and replacement of bearings suited to the thermal and vibration constraints of titanium/Inconel machining
  • Post-intervention dimensional inspection with a report supplied
  • Custom manufacture of synchronous spindles and motor spindles for integration on special aerospace machines

Frequently asked questions

How long does a spindle repair take for an aerospace workshop?

Allow 48h for an on-site intervention and around 20 working days for a full workshop overhaul, depending on the condition of the spindle and the availability of parts.

Do you supply an inspection report we can use in our quality file?

Yes, every intervention comes with a before/after dimensional report that can be passed on for your internal traceability.

Do you work on spindles dedicated to machining titanium or Inconel?

Yes. We diagnose and repair these spindles taking into account the thermal and vibration constraints specific to these materials, down to the choice of bearings.

Do we need to be AS9100 certified to use your services?

No — it is your own certification that governs use of the machine. We adapt to your traceability requirements for the intervention.

A partner for your aerospace requirements

Do you have a requirement on a spindle or motor spindle dedicated to aerospace machining? As an independent workshop, we work across all spindles and motor spindles of workshops cutting titanium, Inconel and aerospace alloys, with the documentation your quality chain demands.

Our teams are at your disposal from our sites in Beaurepaire (France) and Lussery-Villars (Switzerland) for a study of your needs, a diagnosis or a personalised quotation.
